Location:
Clarksburg Branch Line Trail from River City High School to South City Limits

Background:
The Clarksburg Branch Line Trail (CBLT) is a multi-use path that will run north-south from the Barge Canal to its junction at the Southport Levee Recreation Trail (SLRT) near the city limits. It has been included in the City’s active transportation plans since it was acquired from the Sierra Northern Railway. The northern 1.2 miles of the trail (from Locks Drive to River City High School) is paved. The Clarksburg Branch Line Trail Project consists of preparing the designs for completing the CBLT to the city’s southern limits.

Description or Scope: 
The design will include paving the remaining length of the CBLT, two at-grade road crossings, improving three points where the public already accesses the trail, two more elaborate trailheads that will serve both the CBLT and the SLRT, and analyze the existing bridge infrastructure where the CBLT will cross Birchwood Place and South River Road.

Project Benefits: 
The Clarksburg Branch Line Trail is a segment of both SACOG’s regional trail system and the Great California Delta Trail regional trail system while also being an important segment of the City’s walking and bicycling network. The Project will provide West Sacramentans with a safe and quiet way towalk and bicycle between their homes and their schools, jobs, stores, parks, and neighbors. The Project will also serve the entire region by tying the two regional networks together.
